Hello, it’s Kevin.

Ok the daily substack posts are getting annoying now! And I wish I was just writing one massive post a week instead. Some ideas need more time to incubate!

I don’t want to weasel out of finishing the 100 posts, but I also know doing just 1 or 2 posts a week would be MUCH higher quality. We’ll see. To weasel or not to weasel that is the question.

Anyway, below are links to posts 15-29.

TechnoPhysical
Here are two podcasts I did during the lockdowns. In both episodes we discuss the relationship between Mind, Body & Spirit on the one hand, and Technology on the other (bionic) hand. And explore the tension between looking back to ancient wisdom on the one hand, and…

Get Busy Rising or Get Busy Falling
When it comes to your posture, you are either going up, or you are going down - there is no staying the same. Although it can appear like you are staying on the same level, or "it's not that bad yet..." In reality what is happening is your posture is slowly going down, getting a little bit worse every day, but changing so slowly you’re not able to notice…

Different Eyes See Different Things
1. I saw some graffiti today, written on the inside of a window frame: Different eyes see different things Eyes can be different in many ways, physically and symbolically. The eyes are engaged with a complex dance of sensations, movements, feelings and thoughts. Eyes are psychophysical…

The Bio-Individual podcast (Ep. 4)
New episode of the Bio-Individual podcast is out now! And if all this talk of “Brain Orgasms” (what?) doesn’t make you want to listen then we can’t help you. This episode is part 2 of the conversation Alex and I started in the last episode. So you should Watch/Listen to Episode 3 first…

Self-Discipline and Self-Control as a Happy Side Effect
1. Poor posture. Lack of focus. Negative emotions. These seem like three different problems and so requires three different solutions. One for the body, one for the mind, and one for the spirit. But what if there is a human behaviour which ties them altogether, which is common to our posture, focus and emotions, but so close to us - at least to what we n…

Is Posture Physical or Mental?
Most people think posture is primarily about "the body." My aim here is to show that posture is much more in the realm of what we normally think of as “the mind.” It is of course impossible to separate mind and body in reality (only verbally) - as they are intertwined, interactive and dependent on one another in some mysterious way…

The Practical Philosophy of F. Matthias Alexander
Let’s Get Practical Are your ideas practically useful? Probably not, unless you do something with them to find out. What about your favourite philosophers – are their ideas practically useful? Or do they just give you a nice warm feeling and a few new words to feel superior to the normies…

Philosophical Practicality
In my essay The Practical Philosophy of F.M. Alexander I talked about the importance of converting your ideas into practical procedures. I wasn’t happy with this essay because I wrote it in a day (for the 100 daily posts) and it feels like I need a week to develop all the ideas, add some caveats, and give more background…

Visiting the Oracle
Watch now (36 sec) | We are on a trip to Greece and went to visit the oracle at Delphi today. Unfortunately, I never thought to first visit the oracle who lives in Silicon Valley — because the archaeological sites were closed at 3pm today! Guess it’s a winter thing, if that’s what they call this sunshine with a bit of drizzle…

New episode of The Bio-Individual podcast
This week’s episode of the Bio-Individual podcast is on the brain’s left and right hemispheres. We talk about Iain McGilchrist’s essential book on the brain “The Master and His Emissary” which is one of those rare books which changes how you view the world forever — in a literal way — and you will start seeing the brain hemispheres playing out…

A Psychophysical Approach to Architecture
After visiting the oracle we went to meet the Earth Shaker. This is the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, Greece: Whereas in Delphi the living landscape had taken me out my head and into my body – here at Sounion it was a strictly intellectual affair! I couldn’t stop thinking about Oswald Spengler’s…

Let’s get psychophysical! I first learned about psychophysical unity from the books of F. Matthias Alexander. This is where the name of the blog came from and the principle is central to the movement practice I teach. Ideas and techniques claiming to improve the…
